[NEWS] 101130 JYJ attracts 70,000 fans to two-day concert

Despite the freezing cold, about 70,000 fans flocked to the Jamsil Olympic Stadium in Seoul on Nov. 27 and 28 to watch the first concert of trio JYJ, composed of Xiah Junsu, Micky Yoochun and Youngwoong Jaejoong.

The JYJ Worldwide Concert in Seoul was a follow-up to the trio’s successful JYJ worldwide album showcase that took them to New York, Los Angeles and Las Vegas in North America; and to Asian cities Taipei, Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur.

Under the direction of choreographer and artistic director Jeri Slaughter, the Seoul concert saw JYJ performing songs from their first English album, “The Beginning,” including “Ayyy Girl” and “Be My Girl.”

The trio also offered their condolences to the victims of North Korea’s artillery attack on Yeonpyeong island in South Korea where four people were killed.

The stadium was originally planned to be covered to protect the fans from the cold weather. However, hail fell on the morning of the concert, prompting the concert organizer to remove the roof structure to prevent any accident.

During the concert, JYJ announced that they will be having a worldwide concert tour that may take the trio again to different cities.

The trio was overwhelmed by the fans’ support and thanked them for coming to the concert.

“Thanks to all the fans who attended today’s concert. Thank you so much, I was so moved when you all shouted out that you love us,” according to Jaejoong’s tweet, which was translated by fan site tohosomnia.net.

Jaejoong added, “All the challenges and situations we’re experiencing right now are so unfamiliar and tiring, and they wear me out. But there is one thing that isn’t unfamiliar. The people in front of my eyes who still love us.”

A representative of SM Entertainment (hereafter refers to SM), Kim Young Min, said, “The world’s famous video-sharing website, YouTube, has played the role of an engine to attract fans from all around the world.”

On September 3 (hereafter indicates local time), Kim was interviewed at a restaurant located in Los Angeles and said, “SM signed a contract for providing content to YouTube last year. Another fan named Yosophi (18), who came from Spain via a 27-hour flight, said, “I happened to know Super Junior through the Internet.” He was holding the national flag of Spain on which the name of Lee Teuk, a member of Super Junior, was written in Korean.

If the quality of the content spread through the Internet had not been good enough, this kind of favorable response could not have been expected, according to SM. A person at SM explained that the high quality of content produced from the well-established system used to produce star singers by SM, which has been operating for 15 years, could be verified as high-quality content by many people abroad, many of whom have become SM fans.

An American fan named Herisa (19) interviewed at the Staples Center also said, “I listened to the songs of Big Bang at first on the Internet, and now I am a huge fan of Super Junior and f(x). I like both the melodies and the lyrics of their songs.” An advantage of using the Internet is that fans abroad can obtain the information on new songs from their favorite singers in real time.

[NEWS] 100906 SM Artists Attract 15,000 Fans to LA Concert

The artists of SM Entertainment made their second stop of their "SMTOWN LIVE '10 WORLD TOUR" in the United States over the weekend, drawing some 15,000 fans to the Staples Center in Los Angles.

A total of 44 singers and actors including some of K-pop's biggest names such as Super Junior, SHINee, and Girl's Generation, performed at the famed venue on Saturday.

The concert started off with The Grace's member J-min's rendition of song "Shine," followed by other solo and group performances by Kangta, BoA, U-know Yunho, Super Junior, Girls' Generation, SHINee, f(x) TRAX, Kim Jong-min and Lee Yeon-hee.

Sisters Jessica of Girls' Generation and Krystal of f(x) sang U.S. artist Ke$ha's hit pop song "Tik Tok" while Kangta and actress Ara also gave a musical duet performance.

"I am extremely grateful that so many people have come to fill this arena. Fans should be prepared to anticipate more than what they have been expecting to see," singer Kangta said.

Meanwhile, rock duo TRAX sang "Let You Go" and "Oh! My Goddess," nine-member girl group Girls' Generation took the stage for their performances of "Kissing You" and "Gee," followed by songstress BoA, who sang her hit song "My Name."

The highlight of the show was the performance by idols U-Know Yunho and Max Changmin, who arrived on stage on wires. The concert also featured dance performances by Super Junior members Eunhyuk, Donghae, Shindong, SHINee members Minho, Taemin, Girls' Generations' Hyoyeon, Yoona, Yuri, Sooyoung and f(x) members Victoria and Luna.

The four hour-long concert ended with a joint performance of all the artists singing and dancing to H.O.T's hit song "Hope."

SM's world tour will continue on into Shanghai on September 11 at the Hongkou Football Stadium and next January in Tokyo.

SM Entertainment, one of the most influential entertainment houses in the country alongside YG and JYP, was founded by former singer Lee Soo-man in 1995.

K-pop singers, actors and actresses from the SM Entertainment agency in Korea captivated more than 15,000 fans at the “SM Town Live World Tour” concert at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Saturday.

The blockbuster concert featured some 40 of Korea’s biggest stars, including BoA, TVXQ, Girls’ Generation, Super Junior, f(x), SHINee, Kangta, Ara, Kim Min-jong and Lee Yeon-hee, who showcased 56 numbers.

BoA, the 23-year-old global star who recently released her sixth Korean album “Hurricane Venus,” heated up the stage with “My Name.” SHINee’s Key, once a member of BoA’s fan club, joined BoA on stage when she sung “I Did It for Love,” from her first U.S. album.

Girls’ Generation and Super Junior followed on stage, each showcasing hit numbers like “Run Devil Run,” “Kissing You” and “Sorry Sorry.”

Girls’ Generation’s Jessica and her younger sister Krystal from f(x) co-performed “Tik Tock” by Kesha and television stars including Kim Min-jong, Lee Yeon-hee and Ara also appeared on stage for joint performances with the singers.

Top-notch U.S. pop stars such as Beyonce, Usher, Justin Timberlake and Lady Gaga also performed at the Staples Center.

“It is meaningful that Korean artists held a show here for the first time. The ticket sales list showed that only 30 percent of the audience was Korean. It is notable that non-Koreans took up nearly 70 percent of the audience,” said an official from SM Entertainment.

“We saw potential for the success of not only SM artists but Korean artists in the U.S. market. A U.S. tour concert became a new hope for SM Town,” said Kim Young-min, president of SM Entertainment.

Started on Aug. 21 in Seoul, “SM Town Live World Tour” will continue in Shanghai on Sept. 11 then move to Tokyo.

The concerts are being filmed by PACE HD, a 3-D film shooting team which made the movie “Avatar.” Saturday’s concert marked $1.8 million (2.16 billion won) of ticket sales.

On August 10, statistics by AGB Nielsen Media Research revealed that SBS TV series “Giant” scored a viewership rating of 22.9 percent, beating MBC’s historical drama by 1.6 percent. But “Dong Yi” brushed past “Giant” the following week by a difference of 0.3 percentage points, indicating that upcoming KBS show “SungKyunKwan Scandal” is up for tough competition when it premieres on August 30. What are the elements that will be attractive for viewers?

Point of Attraction 1. Micky Yoochun

The reason “SungKyunKwan Scandal” has garnered attention since its casting stages is because of Micky Yoochun’s popularity — the idol group singer will play the role of main character Lee Seon-joon from the original novel by Jung Eun-gwol. The novel, a bestseller which has sold over 500,000 copies since being published in 2007, is about the romance between four men and women set at Confucian academy SungKyunKwan during the Chosun Dynasty. Micky will play Lee the perfectionist, Song Joong-ki the sly Goo Yong-ha, Yu A-in the tough guy Moon Jae-shin and Park Min-young the woman in man disguise Kim Yoon-hee who takes a state exam in place of her sick younger brother. Thanks to the hot popularity of the original novel, numerous simulations regarding the casting had floated on the Internet and the show received increased hype when Micky Yoochun, who has almost no acting experience, was chosen to play one of the main characters. The fact that the singer has been enjoying great popularity throughout Asia from his career as a member of TVXQ may have had a considerable amount of influence on his casting since it will help the show sell overseas but director Kim Won-suk quelled possible concerns by saying, “He has a good voice and attractive features as an actor, as well as a good attitude when it comes to acting.”

Point of Attraction 2. Synchronization Rate of Cast

Ultimately, casting is probably key to the success of “SungKyunKwan Scandal.” Bringing the characters to life — the original novel has proven they are attractive — will act as a safety bar for the show’s viewership ratings which go up and down as if on a roller coaster ride. In that sense, the combination of the four main actors is quite appealing. Park Min-young, who said she wrapped 20 rounds of bandages around herself to hide her female figure, originally has a mid-to-low toned voice and wears almost no make-up for the series, also showed the possibility of pulling off her role as a woman in man disguise easily by showing that she is close to a being bright boy rather than a beautiful lady

Point of Attraction 3. A cheerful historical drama with young people

Like “Dong Yi – Jewel in the Crown” which is set in the mid-Chosun Dynasty and “Giant” in the 70s to 80s, “SungKyunKwan Scandal” too takes place at a specific time and place — the Confucian academy SungKyunKwang during the Chosun Dynasty — but it definitely differentiates itself in terms of concept being a historical drama about young characters. “We incorporated the romantic elements, such as the romance between four men and women and a slightly sexual love story, into the drama exactly the way it is in the original novel,” director Kim Won-suk said. [NEWS] 100627 Yunho’s Drama DVD Release Event Attracts 10,000 Fans

At 1pm on 26 June, Tohoshinki Member Yunho attended an event for the drama he starred in, “Yunho in No Limit ~Heading to the Ground~ Premium Event 2010” at Tokyo International Forum Hall A.

This event commemorates the release of the “No Limit ~Heading to the Ground~” DVD BOX release, and was exclusive only to those who had purchased the DVD Box. His co-star Ara also attended the event as a special guest.

The last time Yunho had appeared in front of the fans before the group went paused all activities was at the NHK Kouhaku Utagassen, so the 5000 fans who attended the event were very passionate. “I went to America to be part of Michael Jackson’s posthumous concert “THIS IS IT ” and this was what I was working hard on,” he said to the fans, smiling and showing his “healthy” appeal.

The best scene that was chose was from the Episode 16, the scene with the “Overhead kick.” He said, “I did the scene about 20 times. But because Ara and the others were chatting nearby, I felt like I needed to look good, so it was a problem.(Laughs) Thanks to them, the scene was taken in a relaxing mood, and I think it turned out cool” showing confidence.

When asked if he actually played soccer in real life, he answered, “When I was young, I played it because I was interested. However, I was not a Forward, but a Goalkeeper. (Laughs)”

Talking about soccer, we are now in the midst of the world cup season. “Bong Goon, the character I play, is a fan of Korean National Player Park Ji-Sung, and in reality, I am a fan of his too.
