YH: Ah! We have wakame soup! (T/N: It’s a type of edible seaweed)
CM: Oh yeaa.
Hosts:
Wakame soup?
CM:
Yea well when our mothers gave birth to us, they go through a lot of pain and lose a lot of blood right? So it’s been said that wakame is really good for the body and for blood so we drink that in order to sort of feel the pain of our mothers..
YH:
It’s really good for the body so people gift wakame soup as a gift.
Host:
So on their birthday they drink wakame soup?
YH:
Yes. People make it by themselves too but I’m bad at cooking so.. *laugh*

Host: Because it’s your birthday we decided to have a party! So we’ve prepared a dart game that the two of you like!
Host:
So both of you will get three chances and you’ll take turns throwing the dart. The one with the most points at the end will be the winner! Just wondering, do the two of you like playing with darts?
CM:
It’s actually been a long time since I’ve done darts and I’m not as good as Yunho so..

[TRANS] 101118 The Whole Story of NHK Today’s Close-up (Nov 16)

This article summarizes the whole contents of the 30 minutes’ program.

TODAY’S CLOSE-UP

Behind the Storm Attack of Korean Idols
Great Deal of Investment on a worldwide basis in order to discover artists

November 17, 2010 18:34

Everyday, you can hear the group names of the Korean K-POP artists such as KARA and SNSD in the media. This year (2010), it is said that 25 K-POP groups came to Japan.

According to the program “Today’s Close-Up”, this is not a peculiar phenomena in Japan. K-POP has evoked enthusiasm in Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand, and other Asian countries. It has been said for the umpteenth time, but even in this field, Japan has been replaced by another country.

“I do not know Japanese singers. I know SNSD.” (Male, Thailand) is an example.
“The days that J-POP dominated to the chart has ended, and these few years, K-POP has replaced them.” says Masayuki Furuya, a music journalist.

Kim Young Min, the CEO for SM Entertainment (which brought to market Tohoshinki, BoA, SNSD) says, “There is an ideal style in order to achieve popularity in Asia”.
They are focusing on dance music which has performance power, even though the language may be different.

Gather 100 thousand for auditions, and only a few pass

CEO Kim boasts “We are investing large sum of money for discovering/training artists, as the same as the research and development costs in general companies. Yearly amount of 200 million yen (approx US$2394400) are spent on discovering new faces. 100 thousand gather for the auditions, and only a few people pass them.

Even when you get to be the trainee, there will be out and out lessons and training for 5 hours every day, for a maximum period of 7 years.

“(During the trainee period) We were only able to sleep about 4 hours each day.
We cleaned up the training room early in the morning, and practiced for more than ten hours.” (Tohoshinki, Yunho)

When the debut approaches, they will study the language of the country they will make the debut. The contents seems to be difficult, not easy contents like half-listening.”
Spending money for discovering new faces and giving Spartan education— these are stories which can be heard of Japan’s idols’ educating system. However, we rarely hear about attracting talented people on a worldwide basis, and think about their overseas activities even before their debut.
According to Furuya, the original Korea music market is small, and CD sales are extremely unfavorable, so it is necessary to target overseas. Those “one’s back against the wall” situation may be the road to success.
Additionally, their vision is to make profit not only by CD sales but through total performances such as concerts, events, and TV appearances. It is in contrast with Japanese entertainment, which is cautious in breaking through the Asian market regarding copyright issues.
When the program focus on Japan oriented contents, Japanese animation (cartoon film) is popular overseas. The anime songs have a high standing. In the end, music also finds a way out in two dimension (animation).

[NEWS] 101111 The Possibility of TVXQ Trio’s Return to Appear on Japan Live Stage?

According to EDGE STYLE magazine December issue that was printed on the 6th, the three TVXQ members Junsu, Jaejoong, and Yoochun whose Japan activities were suddenly suspended a while ago will plan to appear once again and conduct live performance in Japan in around mid-November.

On last October 12th the three members held a showcase performance at Korea University, Seoul. The showcase became a commemorative event that marked the official formation of the three members’ unit ‘JYJ’. Moreover, the group seems to have hidden desire to target the whole world as the goal of their activities. JYJ had traveled to Thailand, Hongkong, and many other countries including several United States regions to hold their worldwide showcase as a thank you event for all fans due to the smooth flow of their first album in market.

EDGE STYLE magazine successfully interviewed a relevant official of JYJ, and the official reported, “We actually have this plan under discussion. In mid-November, the three members will re-establish their status as foreign artists in Japan, and we will conduct several performances as many as possible.” Although the live stage is still under discussion, it looks like the days to finally watch ‘JYJ’ on stage again is not so far away.

EDGE STYLE’s editor in chief Watanabe Rio through his editorial model press stated, “We got this testimony from someone who has close relationship to TVXQ.” There are also other testimonies from the members’ staffs provided in EDGE STYLE December issue, forced us to gradually believe that the event will soon come true.

[TRANS] Japan Avex CEO masatomatsuura ‘s tweet about JYJ is creating a commotion

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

TVXQ’s members, Micky YooCheon, Xiah Junsu, Hero JaeJoong signed a contract with CJes Entertainment and thereby forming JYJ. On the 12th, they mark the start of their first World Tour Showcase at GoRyo University. After the end of the showcase, on the 13th, masatomatsuura posted a tweet at his twitter page saying “I opened my heart and spoke to them but I was betrayed like nothing happened. It’s important to have trust. Especially when you’re in such an industry, trust is a must. I had wished that I can speak of the matters someday.” Adding on he tweeted “Losing is winning. Even it is so now, someday things will change. The strength that allows me to endure such humiliation is perseverance and training. Someday, I will tell these stuck-ups off. Because I will not lose in the end. I’m just talking to myself.” And he added, “If there’s no pain, it’s not interesting.”

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

For JYJ fans who have seen those messages, they replied harsh messages like “I start to hate Japan.”, “JYJ is so pitiful”, “Bad guy” [this word is not very pleasant in Korean.] But masatomatsuura replied saying “You’ll get your retribution.” “Please be careful of what you say.” With that, a fight of resentment has started.

AVEX has expressed on the 16th sept that because of the law issues that CJes is involved in and the on-going contract issues with SME, AVEX has used these reasons to express that they will stop JYJ’s activities in Japan. With that JYJ expressed on 17th Sep that “we have no intentions to stop our activities in Japan and we had abided with all our contract terms faithfully. But from a few months back onwards, AVEX has started to stress that the contract terms were unreasonable and one-sidedly decided to stop the contract and even issued released news saying that we will be stopping our activities.”
