[NEWS] 101128 Kim Hyun Joong, “I Only Store 40 Numbers in My Phone Contacts”

When asked how many close celebrity friends he had during an interview with Sports Chosun, Kim Hyun Joong replied, “I really don’t have many. The people I spend most of my time with are not celebrities. I only have about 40 numbers saved in my phone because I like memorizing numbers instead.

On Xiah Junsu: “I became close with him along with Hero Jaejoong because we debuted around the same time. He’s one of the ‘Men’ members of our celebrity soccer team, which also includes Lee Wan, Kim Bum, and Micky Yoochun. Wan-hyung went to the military so we don’t meet up to play as often, but we all love it enough to meet up at 2:00 AM to play. We don’t have specific positions or numbers, we just run around in packs, chasing after the ball. One time, Junsu suggested that we make uniforms with our own numbers on the back. I said I wanted to be ‘Root3′ and he told me to shut up.”

On Micky Yoochun: “I don’t see him often, but he’s a drinking buddy that I’d run out of the house for at any time of the day. He’s never fake with me, which is why I love him. Our nicknames for each other consists of swears. I actually wasn’t able to monitor for him when he was doing ‘Sungkyunkwan Scandal‘ because I was in ‘Playful Kiss,’ but I did watch it all at once later and felt that the drama ended right when it was getting good.”

On Gummy: “She’s a close nuna that is even friends with my mother. A while ago, her parents opened an oyster restaurant in Bundang, so I went and had a meal with soju by myself.

On SS501: “We’ll be releasing an album next year. They’re dongsengs that will be with me for the rest of my life. Some time ago, Kim Hyung Joon said that I ignored his text in a conference for his musical. I was in China at the time and my battery died, so I was unable to check his text. Now, whenever I go out overseas, I’m going to make sure I bring an extra charger.”

[Trans] 100827 Hyun Joong Glad For Different Airing Times As Good Friend Yoochun

Kim Hyun Joong: “Competing against my good friend Yoochun’s acting skills– it’s a relief the airing times are different.”

At 2PM on August 26, a production press conference at Yangdo Gangnam-gu, Seoul was held for MBC drama “Playful Kiss”. When faced with the question of how he plans on confronting Park Yoochun’s acting, Kim Hyun Joong laughingly said: “Yoochun’s airs on Mondays and Tuesdays, while mine airs on Wednesdays and Thursdays, so we can avoid the competition of having a similar time slot.”

“Sungkyunkwan Scandal” with Park Yoochun acting as main character will air it’s first episode on August 30.

Kim Hyun Joong says: “After watching Sungkyunkwan Scandal’s previews, I feel that it is really good. Although we haven’t been drinking with each other recently, I feel pressured as this is Yoochun’s debut in television drama acting. Challenging a drama that releases 2 episodes each week is tough, but I can’t really provide any particular suggestions. Even though I haven’t even done anything about it, I still feel that Yoochun handles it very well.”

[TRANS] 100729 ‘Hallyu Idol Challenge' – Yoochun vs. Hyun Joong

Moving from the stage to television dramas, SS501’s Kim Hyun Joong and DBSK’s Yoochun are now competing in a “Hallyu Idol Challenge”, where their self-pride is the reward for the ultimate champion.

SS501’s Kim Hyun Joong will once again be displaying his acting skills in MBC’s Mizuki drama [It Started With A Kiss] (broadcast begins 1 September) while DBSK’s Yoochun will transform into an actor in KBS’s television drama [SungKyunKwan Scandal] (broadcast begins 30 August), which will be screened every Monday and Tuesday. Both Hyun Joong and Yoochun, who are currently going through a tough time in terms of issues with their management companies and with their group, have caught the attention of the masses by marking their new start with acting. So far, Kim Hyun Joong and Yoochun have been competitors in the area of music. Hyun Joong proved his acting abilities in his perfect portrayal of senior Yoon Ji Hoo in [Boys Over Flowers]. Despite that, he was criticized for his lack of expression and pronunciation, and these will be the main obstacles he needs to overcome in the upcoming drama. Even though the current character is a 180-degree change from the one played in [Boys Over Flowers], Hyun Joong still hopes to play the character perfectly. In [Boys Over Flowers], senior Yoon Ji Hoo was often described as gentle, but the character in [It Started With A Kiss] is one who is cold-blooded and nonchalant towards all things.

After having seen both Taiwan’s and Japan’s versions of the drama, Kim Hyun Joong is now feeling the pressure of having to play out a character that is completely different (from his previous role). Yoochun, who is involved in the drama [SungKyunKwan Scandal], is also starting out his path as an actor with a lot of pressure. Even though he has been recognized for his abilities in the area of music, Yoochun is still considered a newbie in the area of television dramas. Yoochun is extremely gentle as an actor, a complete opposite from the strong disposition he carries when he is in DBSK. In [SungKyunKwan Scandal], Yoochun plays the lead role of a man who is perfect in everything and lacks in nothing.

Amongst the fans of television dramas that are based on original novels, a heated discussion has opened up around two mains points about Yoochun’s character – “Best Role” and “Similarity of The Character Played by Yoochun and Yoochun’s Personal Character”. In order to play the role out better, Yoochun, who is challenging acting for the first time, donned on the ancient costume required for the drama and cheerfully attended the press conference. Both colleagues and competitors at the same time, the television drama duel between both Kim Hyun Joong’s and Yoochun’s acting skills will definitely be something to anticipate and look forward to.

[TRANS] 100727 “Idol Rivals” Kim Hyunjoong vs Yoochun – Acting Battle

“Idol Rivals” SS501’s Kim Hyunjoong and TVXQ’s Micky Yoochun will be moving their battle of pride from the dance stage to the television drama stage.

SS501’s Kim Hyungjoon will be starring in MBC’s new Weds/Thurs drama, coming back to the acting stage with “Accidental Kiss” (Starting 1 September,) and TVXQ member Micky Yoochun will be transforming into an actor in the KBS2 Mon/Tues drama “SungKyunKwan Scandal” (Starting 30 August) With a change of management companies and their group’s continued future still unknown, both members are re-establishing themselves via acting, and have attracted much attention with their new starts.

So far, Kim Hyunjoong and Micky Yoochun have been rivals on the musical arena. Both SS501 and TVXQ are considered as top idol groups, and have been engaged in friendly competition since their debut. Especially since both groups are made of 5 people, and enjoy widespread popularity not just in Korea but in Asia, they are often compared against each other.

Both men, not as singers but as actors, will be battling it out head on again, and this has resulted in much attention. Especially since “Accidental Kiss” and “SungKyunKwan Scandal” are the first starring roles for both Kim Hyunjoong and Micky Yoochun, representatives of the younger generation, and since both their dramas will be airing at the same time, the battle between the two continues to heat up.

As actors, Kim Hyunjoong has a slight edge over Micky Yoochun. Doing well as “Jihoo Sunbae” in “Boys before Flowers”, he has proven his star power. However, there is always room for improvement. In “Boys before Flowers”, it was noted that he was slightly awkward with pronunciation and expression, and these are the key points he needs to work on. As a 180 degree change in character from that of “Boys before Flowers,” how to express this is probably his main concern. In “Boys before Flowers,” Jihoo Sunbae’s character was “soft,” but in this role, he has to act out the disinterested, cold charm of the character.

While watching the previous Japanese and Taiwanese versions, more than wondering about which character Kim Hyunjoong should be expressing, there high expectations on whether this drama can be a hit or not, so Kim Hyunjoong’s burden is heavy. Similarly, “SungKyunKwan Scandal’s” Micky Yoochun is facing a lot of pressure. Micky Yoochun’s abilities are already recognized in the music industry, but is still a rookie in the acting arena. The actor Micky Yoochun, is showing a totally different side from his strong, soft image in TVXQ. In “SungKyunKwan Scandal,” Micky Yoochun plays the role of Lee Seon Joon, who does not lack in brains, money or looks, the perfect man.

Fans of the original novel either say that the casting of Micky Yoochun for the role, is the “best casting” or that he “totally does not match the role.” And there have been many discussions with opinions divided. Because of this, the first acting challenge for Micky Yoochun and how he expresses this character has become a great concern. Rivals and colleagues in the music industry, and now battling it out for victory as actors, we anticipate the drama showdown between Kim Hyunjoong and Micky Yoochun.

[TRANS] 100712 Seung Gi Vs Hyunjoong Vs Yoochun – Drama Showdown

Three top stars of the same age will be battling it out in our living rooms.

Singer Lee Seung Gi, SS501’s Kim Hyunjoong (Leader) and Tohoshinki’s Yoochun will be starring in dramas during the August – September periods. Lee Seung Gi was born in early ’87, and Hyunjoong and Yoochun were born in ’86 are of the same age. They will be competing on the acting stage to see who comes out tops.

Firstly, Lee Seung Gi. His comeback midweek drama “My Girlfriend is a Nine-Tailed Fox” is scheduled to start airing on 11 August on SBS. He plays a man who lives with a nine-tailed fox spirit (Shin Min Ah) whose seal is broken after 500 years.

So far, Lee Seung Gi’s star quality in acting has been recognized via his dramas “Famous Princesses” and “Shining Inheritance.” “My Girlfriend is a Nine-Tailed Fox” will probably serve to establish his position as an actor further.

Next, Hyunjooong, whose acting debut was the role of Yoon Ji Hoo (Hanazawa Rui) from F4 in “Boys over Flowers.” He will be touching girls’ hearts again in MBC’s new midweek drama “Mischievous Kiss.” This drama, like “Boys over Flowers”, is adapted from a popular Japanese comic, and Hyunjoong’s character is expected to shine, just like the actual comic character.

“Mischievous Kiss” will be directed by Hwang In Roe, who also directed “Goong” and is expected to air in August after “Road Number One”.

Finally, Yoochun will be officially kicking off his acting activities in September with the KBS drama “SungKyunKwan Scandal.” Unlike Lee Seung Gi and Kim Hyunjoong, he will not be competing at the same time slots, but the pressure for his debut is still great. Together with Park Min Young, Soong Joon Gi & Yoo Ah-In, Yoochun will be part of “Chosun Dynasty’s F4,” helping to alleviate his burden.

“SungKyunKwang Scandal” has received much interest both locally and internationally, and distribution rights were sold to Japan even before production began.

After Lee Seung Gi, Kim Hyunjoong and Park Yoochun’s drama are over, Super Junior’s Choi Siwon and Tohoshinki’s Changmin will be taking over. Choi Siwon will be featured in SBS’s “Athena : Goddess of War” and Changmin will be acting in “Paradise Ranch.”

(T/N: Midweek dramas are actually called “Wednesday-Thursday” dramas, referring to the days that they are being aired on. “My Girlfriend is a Nine-tailed fox” and “Mischievous Kiss” will be showing at the above day slots, while “SungKyunKwan Scandal” will be aired on Monday & Tuesday.)
