[TRANS] 110204 ‘Multitalented Idols’ JYJ, What Are Their Acting Plans For 2011?

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

JYJ’s Kim Jaejoong has recently become the center of attention when it was uncovered that he’s being considered for a role in the drama ‘HanBanDo’ with top actors like Jang Dong Gun and Ha Jiwon. According to a representative of JYJ, not only will Kim Jaejoong be acting this year, but Park Yoochun and Kim Junsu will also take a stab at acting as well.

First up is Kim Jaejoong, who is a strong candidate for the drama ‘HanBanDo’ and one who acted in the drama ‘Sunao Ni Narenakute’ with famous Japanese actors such as Eita and Ueno Juri. Having built his foundation through the movie and drama he has appeared in as an actor, Kim Jaejoong is a rising star full of potential who is catching the eyes of drama representatives. A JYJ spokesperson stated, “Jaejoong is getting many love calls from production companies who have been keeping an eye on him as he has been gaining more experience in acting,” and “Many scenarios have come in, for movies and for drams. He has been receiving great offers in the drama genre so he is carefully considering his options. There is a high possibility that he will greet viewers through a drama in the later half of this year.“

Park Yoochun, who successfully transformed into an actor through his role in the KBS drama ‘SungKyunKwan Scandal’ last year, is also planning to tackle a drama this year. The representative stated, “He has been receiving countless love calls after his role in ‘SungKyunKwan Scandal’,” and “As his first work was a historical drama, he is waiting for a new drama in which he can show a different kind of charm. Viewers will be able to see Yoochun in a drama, at the latest, in the second half of this year.”

Park Yoochun took the role of ‘Lee Seon Joon’ in the drama ‘SungKyunKwan Scandal’ and was praised for his acting, which was much more sophisticated than that of other rookies. As a result, he received three trophies at the 2010 KBS Drama Awards and proved his enormous potential as an actor.

Kim Junsu, who began performances for the musical ‘Tears of Heaven’ on February 1st, is planning to continue his remarkable activities on stage. The representative stated, “Though he is receiving offers for dramas and movies as well, Junsu wishes to and is planning on continuing his activities as a musical actor,” and “He has already proved his immense ticket power as well as his acting skills through various performances. Right now, his focus is to finish ‘Tears of Heaven’ well. He may greet audiences once more through a different musical in the second half of this year.”

Like so, JYJ are planning to be extremely active this year, branching out into the field of acting while continuing their careers as musicians. As all three have proved their potential, representatives of the industry believe that they will be as flawless as actors as they are as singers.

[NEWS] Park Yoo Chun: ‘Acting Is Really Enjoyable’

Park Yoo Chun (24), who successfully debuted as an actor by appearing in the drama “Sungkyunkwan Scandal,” said, “I really enjoyed acting and I feel like acting continuously from now on. I want to have activities both as a singer and an actor.”

His debut was very electrifying. He gained huge popularity not as a member of Asia’s popular idol group JYJ, which consists of three of the former Dong Bang Shin Ki members, but as actor Park Yoo Chun. His debut drama was “Sungkyunkwan Scandal,” and now he can simultaneously chase two goals of singing and acting. He seems to be following after popular singers such as Jeong Ji Hoon (Rain) and Lee Seung Ki, who has been highly acknowledged as an actor as well. The reporter met Park Yoo Chun, who had reportedly been laid up with fatigue for two days after finishing the drama, at the office of JVJ on November 5.

Park came with a fresh appearance after cutting off the long hair that he had grown for the past six months, and he said with a big smile, “Even though I lost almost ten kilograms while filming the drama and I had to be taken to the hospital twice to get an IV, I was really happy while acting.”

Instead of the mature and cold Confucian student Lee Sun Joon, who emphasized courtesy and principles, rookie actor Park Yoo Chun told a long story about himself while maintaining a bright smile on his face. But Park Yoo Chun in his story sounded so dogged and firm, and it seemed that his firm and ceaseless effort during the filming of the drama might be the reason he could gain this fervent popularity at this moment.

Question: The Hanbok fit you nicely. Do you usually wear a Hanbok?

▲ Not at all. I do not wear a Hanbok even during the national holidays. But I felt good because I could fortunately hear that the Hanbok fit me nicely. I did not have any fear about wearing a topknot and Hanbok, rather I felt that it might be better for me to distinguish my new appearance as an actor from my previous appearance as a singer. In the first shoot, I had scenes in which I usually took a walk without any lines simply to hide my inexperienced acting, but people who saw my scenes in the first episode said that I looked just like a classical scholar, so I felt very good. But I actually felt distressed about acting after hearing this good evaluation, saying my appearance looked well-matched to the drama. My mother once paid a sudden visit to the set and she was reportedly so surprised to see my appearance after the makeup because I looked like a different person and also looked very nice in costume.

Question: A long script for a historical drama might have been very difficult for you. How was it?

▲ Yes, it was very difficult. The director had told me that I did not need to speak my lines with a tone for a traditional history drama since our drama was a fusion historical drama, but I was continuously conscious of the particular voice tone for a historical drama due to my preconception about the historical drama genre. Even though I had gone through a hard time due to my tone of voice when speaking lines, I tried to memorize the whole script since I thought that I should. I heard people’s advice in the beginning saying that I might come to beg for even two hours of sleep in the end due to the stress over memorizing lines, and it actually happened in the end, but I tried my best not to make mistakes coming from not memorizing my lines.

Question: You had shown gradually better acting as the episodes went on in your debut drama, even in the situation where you also had to perform concerts as a member of JYJ.

▲ I had been taken to the hospital twice due to the terribly tight schedule, and that is when I learned that actors were taking great pains to do their jobs. When I had spare time, I had to choose to sleep rather than to eat and actually I could not eat very well due to the stress coming from my anxiety about acting. I ate snacks not to suffer from indigestion, so I ended up losing almost ten kilograms. I should have slept while moving, but I had to memorize the script instead; what was worse, I also had to perform on the stage as a singer. I was in a tight situation, so I could not think about anything else but acting and I came to concentrate more on my script only. Even though many people came to the set, I could not see them because I had to look at the script. At the end of the drama, I really could not find time for participating in the drama shooting, so I put more effort in practicing acting. I had to go out for concerts, so I prepared much more for acting because I thought that I might feel sorry even more for the other actors if I made a mistake during filming. I sometimes heard other actors’ saying “Your acting looked better than before,” but actually I could not afford to enjoy people’s praise at all.

Question: What do you think about acting now that you have done it?

▲ I really enjoyed it. I definitely found it exciting and I felt more desire toward acting. I got a lot of help from actor Kim Kap Soo, who played my father in the drama, by seeing his good acting and taking acting lessons from him. Sometimes, I got goose bumps while acting together with him. He had a powerful force in his acting, and I think that I could present unexpected good acting sometimes thanks to his harmony. I really want to become an actor like Kim Kap Soo and Kim Yoon Seok.

Question: The scene in which you confessed your homosexuality on the street was outstanding. Many people who had seen your tearful acting were surprised a lot.

▲ When we filmed the scene, we really did not have much time for filming. The schedule was so tight that we might not be able to film any scene again even though there was a mistake. Many people were watching the set when we filmed the scene in the folk village located in Yongin, but I thought that I had to film the scene in only one take without any mistake. Fortunately I could film the scene after making only one mistake. I made a mistake because I cried too much. Actually, I felt really great about my tears that were automatically coming from my eyes (laugh). I used to feel curious about actors who can cry while acting on the set with no background music. I had thought, “How can they cry that well, does somebody play sad music for them?” But I found out that I could cry when I was immersed in emotion. After that, I could have a kind of confidence about crying or any scene requiring emotion.

Question: When was the happiest moment for the character Lee Sun Joon and for you as an actor? And what did you agonize about?

▲ I found out later when I looked into the script again after finishing the drama that the happiest moment for Lee Sun Joon was when his father congratulated him for his entrance to Sungkyunkwan. And I felt good while acting, thinking, “I might be able to try to act again from now on.” Also, I felt sorry that I could not play the character Lee Sun Joon — who had a huge ambition, enough to go down in history — very well maybe because I was not that good at acting. I should have shown the progress of how the cold character in the beginning became a warm human in the end, but I felt bad because the same character from the beginning seemed to be exposed again in the end due to my inexperienced acting.

Question: The last episode has aroused controversy.

▲ Yes, it is true that it should have been extended by adding more episodes, not to finish the story in a hurry. Personally, I wanted it to avoid the happy ending because many gloomy topics had been developed at the end, so I thought that it would be better if the drama finished with a sad ending. But after I received the script for the last episode, I changed my thought to show something in the last episode. If there were no comical setting in the end, I could have felt something was lacking.

Question: Women in their thirties and forties, who had no idea about Micky Yoochun, have become your fans. What do you think?

▲ I also heard that. I do not know why it had happened (laugh). When I filmed the drama on the set in Yongin, an old woman recognized me as “Lee Sun Joon,” and she was glad to see me. Her family members also told me that she felt excited to see me. Maybe it was because the drama was about a story in the past. Anyway, I really appreciated it.

Question: From when have you wanted to become an actor?

▲ I have wanted to act from the time when I had actively performed as a member of the group Dong Bang Shin Ki after releasing our second album. And I could confirm what I had thought at that time by acting in this drama. I had the thought that actors could become various characters within many different works, so they might be able to express themselves in many ways and come to feel free from restrained feelings, and actually I could release my stress more by acting rather than feeling distressed from acting at this time. I felt good when I played Lee Sun Joon because he was a character who directly pointed out anything wrong from the beginning, which was totally different from me, who usually restrains my feelings until the last moment, when I cannot endure it any more. Action scenes were also very helpful for releasing stress.

Question: Many people have spoken highly of your humble attitude as if you were a completely rookie actor even though you are actually a star singer.

▲ When I went to Japan to advance into the Japanese music industry, I had become a rookie singer again. At that moment, I realized that everybody, whether he or she is popular or not, are all human beings and people should not show off their popularity even though they have gained huge popularity from the public because we are all the same as human beings. In addition, I thought that I should behave as a rookie actor because actually I was.

Question: Lee Sun Joon in the drama agonized about the future of Joseon Dynasty. What do you agonize about?

▲ Actually, I am very much worried about my father who is hospitalized these days due to an illness. I had felt sorry that I could not visit him often while filming the drama. In addition, I want to become a person whom my close friends and people right next to me can respect. I want to be sincerely respected by close people. If I could not take care of people around me enough due to busy schedule up until now, I will take care of them with my true heart from this moment. Then I think that I might become a better person.

[NEWS] 101029 Various idols rated by their acting skills

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Nowadays, it’s quite difficult to find a drama without an idol star in it. Thus a new term was coined: ‘actingdol’. Of course, idol stars are a good way to bring in decent ratings. However, these idols also are closely scrutinized and criticized for their lack of acting ability.

Sports Seoul gathered 3 Content Producers from the major broadcast channels in addition to various film industry representatives to determine which ‘actingdols’ were the best, according to acting ability, potential growth, and drama ratings. The males who came out on top were Lee Seung Gi and Micky Yoochun. Out of the females, Nam Gyuri did the best.

Lee Seung Gi and Micky Yoochun – Acting Ability. Box-Office hit. 1st and 2nd Place.

Through SBS ‘My Girlfriend is a Gumiho‘, Lee Seung Gi came out on top and got the highest rating for acting ability (4.2/5) . Yoochun’s debut drama was KBS2 ‘Sungkyunkwan Scandal’, where he managed a rating of ‘4′ for his first attempt at acting. Also, SBS ‘You’re Beautiful‘’s Lee Hongki (FT Island) received a rating of 3.4 while SBS ‘Oh My Lady‘’s Choi Siwon (Super Junior) received a 3.2 rating. Nam Gyuri was rated 3.4 for her role in SBS ‘Life is Beautiful’.

KBS CP Moon Bohyun, stated, “I like Micky Yoochun because he’s not a regular flower boy. Although he lacks in acting experience, one can still see his charisma as an actor.”

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Across the board most of the people rated high for potential growth, but the opposite was true for Tara’s Jiyeon and Kim Hyun Joong. For MBC ‘Playful Kiss‘ Kim Hyun Joong received a mark of 4 in the category for drama ratings. However for potential growth he ranked behind both Choi Siwon and Nam Gyuri, with a 3.4 mark. Jiyeon placed the highest for drama ratings but the lowest for potential growth (2.7).

SBS CP Choi Moonseok commented, “Although I’m not sure about supporting roles, out of the current ‘actingdols’, there isn’t anyone with enough potential to become a leading lady. Performing on stage and being pretty is extremely different from being a good actress.”

On October 18, Song Il Kook tweeted, “I must promptly watch the broadcast of SungKyunKwan Scandal. Recently, the younger generation of actors are very engrossed in their acting. When I was still a rookie, my acting was rather lacking~ ^^. As I’m writing this, it’s like I’m showing off how good my acting is. It’s not that, but I do have a firmer grasp on it as the acting gets increasingly harder.”

The fans of ‘SungKyunKwan Scandal’ have replied him saying things like, “it’s an honor that Prince Jumong is also watching SKK”, and “it’s great that a senior in acting is being so humble towards his juniors”. In response, he said “because I act in a lot of historic films, I love watching them”.

Song Il Kook has acted in historical dramas ‘Emperor Of The Sea’, ‘Jumong’, and ‘The Kingdom Of The Winds’.

[NEWS] 101019 Park Yoochun Got Praised For His Developing Acting Skill in ‘SungKyunKwan Scandal’

Latest News About Update Sungkyunkwan Scandal Episode 16: Drama representatives have been expressing their amazement at JYJ’s Yuchun’s (Micky Yoochun) first drama debut. Although he received criticisms in the beginning for his embarrassing acting skills, his steady and consistent improvement has caught the eyes of many, and in particular, the CP of KBS’s “Sungkyunkwan Scandal.”

CP Kwak Kiwon stated on October 19th, “I noticed that his gaze started to change after the fifth episode. His lines got a lot longer and the amount of NGs he made started to decrease as well. By the 15th and 16th episode recording, I was shocked when I saw that he was immersing himself into his lines, even shedding a few tears at times.”

He went on to compliment, “He has amazing concentration skills. The pressure must be heavy on him since he’s a rookie but he’s able to handle a lot of things despite his status.”

For an inexperienced actor, one would assume that the long term recordings and the difficult scheduling would tire him out. However, Yuchun showed remarkable consistency even while performing as a member of JYJ. Kwak CP continued, “Yuchun earns a lot of points for his sincerity. He’s a star as a singer, but he fully knows that he’s still a rookie when it comes to acting and acts accordingly.”

The CEO of Sungkyunkwan Scandal’s production company, Lemon Rain, stated, “We were worried since Lee Seon Jun has many lines, but he exceeded our expectations so we’re very proud. Through each episode, his acting is improving. He has the potential to become a great actor.”

A representative from CJES Entertainment commented, “Yuchun went through rigorous acting lessons before recording the drama. The acting he is showing now is only the result of much effort. The producers were so surprised at how well he matched the role when he first got costumed and earned a great response.

[TRANS] 100817 Yoochun – “Acting Made Me Feel Better Inside”

Posted Image

Embroiled in a continued lawsuit with SM Entertainment, TVXQ’s Yoochun said that starting on his acting activities helped him to gain strength.

On 17 August, at the Sheraton Grand Walker Building’s (In Seoul’s Gwangjang-dong) Vista Hall, attending the new Monday-Tuesday drama “SungKyunKwan Scandal” (KBS2)’s production conference, Yoochun said “Because it’s been about a year since I’ve done activities within Korea, there is a lot of pressure. I did not have the mood to start working again, with a heart that has yet to be healed.” However, “After going for acting lessons, I started to feel better inside,” he commented.

He also said, “I started on the actual shoot, and it’s quite different from when I was practicing. But because the other actors have been praising my acting skills, I gained strength from that.”

But “With regards to acting skills, I was really troubled. I think it was a process of changing into a new me. However, as “SungKyunKwan Scandal” is the start of my acting life, I think that this is a very meaningful project for me. More so than me picking this project, I’m thankful for the many generous staff that helped me,” he said.

Directing the production of this drama, Kim Won Seok PD said “Yoochun has a 3rd Rank in Taekwondo, so most of the action scenes did not require any substitutes. He’s good at slapstick comedy too. Please look forward to Yoochun’s action scenes.” He said.

*************************

Recalling the painful times that the trio had endured during the lawsuit against SM Entertainment, he said, “There was a period of time where I totally isolated myself. Everyone around me was worried. I was always locking myself at home, up to a point where my mom would be shocked if I went out.”

He said, “This project changed me. Since I started on it, I will want to do it well. Especially since all the actors in the drama are treating me really well, and I am thankful, so this makes me work even harder.”

Now, the two men will continue their rivalry not as singer, but as actor, and a lot of interests of how this competition will result is piling up. Although their drama won’t be in the same broadcast time, however ratings and their acting performance itself are deserved to have much expectations.

[TRANS] 100727 “Idol Rivals” Kim Hyunjoong vs Yoochun – Acting Battle

“Idol Rivals” SS501’s Kim Hyunjoong and TVXQ’s Micky Yoochun will be moving their battle of pride from the dance stage to the television drama stage.

SS501’s Kim Hyungjoon will be starring in MBC’s new Weds/Thurs drama, coming back to the acting stage with “Accidental Kiss” (Starting 1 September,) and TVXQ member Micky Yoochun will be transforming into an actor in the KBS2 Mon/Tues drama “SungKyunKwan Scandal” (Starting 30 August) With a change of management companies and their group’s continued future still unknown, both members are re-establishing themselves via acting, and have attracted much attention with their new starts.

So far, Kim Hyunjoong and Micky Yoochun have been rivals on the musical arena. Both SS501 and TVXQ are considered as top idol groups, and have been engaged in friendly competition since their debut. Especially since both groups are made of 5 people, and enjoy widespread popularity not just in Korea but in Asia, they are often compared against each other.

Both men, not as singers but as actors, will be battling it out head on again, and this has resulted in much attention. Especially since “Accidental Kiss” and “SungKyunKwan Scandal” are the first starring roles for both Kim Hyunjoong and Micky Yoochun, representatives of the younger generation, and since both their dramas will be airing at the same time, the battle between the two continues to heat up.

As actors, Kim Hyunjoong has a slight edge over Micky Yoochun. Doing well as “Jihoo Sunbae” in “Boys before Flowers”, he has proven his star power. However, there is always room for improvement. In “Boys before Flowers”, it was noted that he was slightly awkward with pronunciation and expression, and these are the key points he needs to work on. As a 180 degree change in character from that of “Boys before Flowers,” how to express this is probably his main concern. In “Boys before Flowers,” Jihoo Sunbae’s character was “soft,” but in this role, he has to act out the disinterested, cold charm of the character.

While watching the previous Japanese and Taiwanese versions, more than wondering about which character Kim Hyunjoong should be expressing, there high expectations on whether this drama can be a hit or not, so Kim Hyunjoong’s burden is heavy. Similarly, “SungKyunKwan Scandal’s” Micky Yoochun is facing a lot of pressure. Micky Yoochun’s abilities are already recognized in the music industry, but is still a rookie in the acting arena. The actor Micky Yoochun, is showing a totally different side from his strong, soft image in TVXQ. In “SungKyunKwan Scandal,” Micky Yoochun plays the role of Lee Seon Joon, who does not lack in brains, money or looks, the perfect man.

Fans of the original novel either say that the casting of Micky Yoochun for the role, is the “best casting” or that he “totally does not match the role.” And there have been many discussions with opinions divided. Because of this, the first acting challenge for Micky Yoochun and how he expresses this character has become a great concern. Rivals and colleagues in the music industry, and now battling it out for victory as actors, we anticipate the drama showdown between Kim Hyunjoong and Micky Yoochun.
