The musical ‘Tears of Heaven’, which has become a hot topic because of Kim Junsu’s participation, is receiving criticism from Kim Junsu’s fans for setting up the OP section with folding chairs regardless of the high price of the tickets.

The musical, which is currently showing at the National Theater, has been garnering attention even before it began showing for the cast and crew involved, including Frank Wildhorn, Kim Junsu and Brad Little.

The show was expected to have explosive ticket sales due to the participation of Kim Junsu, and this proved true when all the shows Kim Junsu is set to star in were sold out in minutes.

But fans, who had focused on nothing but Kim Junsu’s appearance at the beginning, are starting to raise their voices against Seol Company’s seating arrangements as they said, “We buy and buy because Junsu’s appearing in the show, and Seol Company’s been blinded by the business we bring.”

The problem they brought up was the OP section which is located right in front of the VIP section. These seats are situated at the front of the theater and are used only when there is no orchestra or when the theater is small.

Kim Junsu’s fans have pointed out that Seol Company is charging the same price for all seats on the first level, but are being unjust when it comes to seating arrangements. On fan said, “OP seats should cost less than VIP seats or at least a certain distance away, but how can they put a couple of folding chairs in a section and call it the OP section?” and “The VIP section doesn’t feel like the VIP section and neither does the OP section. How does it make sense that the back row of the first floor costs as much as the first row. 130,000 Won folding chairs? Really?” Another fan said, “I thought they already had OP section chairs like the Sejong Arts Center but all they did was put folding chairs in front of the VIP section. Because they made seats that didn’t exist before, I couldn’t see anything from the waist down of the actors.“

Most of the time, the OP section costs as much as the R section or less because it is close to the stage, but its proximity makes it hard to see the stage. But ‘Tears of Heaven’ charged the same price of 130,000 Won as it charged for the VIP section, and as the company created seats with folding chairs, the new seats are affecting both those in the OP section and those sitting in the first few rows of the VIP section. Also, as the first three rows of the VIP section are on the same level, people who pay for the expensive tickets end up watching the show in severe discomfort.

A representative of the production company stated, “We worry that people say think that by charging 130,000 Won for all the seats on the first floor and by not differentiating between the VIP and OP sections, we may look like we’re extorting fans through star marketing but that is not the case at all.“

[NEWS] 101018 Kim Junsu Won Rookie Award As ‘Mozart’ Actor

On the 18th at 19:30, Kim Junsu beat his counterparts ‘Sopyonje’ Kim Tae Hoon, ‘Mozart’ Park Eun Tae, and ‘Phantom of The Opera’ Jung Sang Hyun to win the rookie award at 16th Korea Musical Award held in KBS Hall in Seoul, South Korea.

Other than Kim Junsu, the actors from ‘Billy Elliot’ musical were also jointly awarded as best rookies namely Kim Se Yong, Lee Ji Myung, Im Seon Woo, and Jeong Jin Hoo.

Kim Junsu, “To be given such big prize, I want to start spreading this grateful to my Godfather. I also want to express my gratitude to EMK representative Um Hong Hyun and all ‘Mozart!’ staffs and actors. To me who is unfamiliar to musical, Park Eun Tae hyung taught me a lot thus I want to say all thanks to him as well. At first I felt hesitated to receive this musical offer. There were also problems with TVXQ but I was given courage and strength by CS’ representative Mr. Baek, also to everyone, thank you very much.”

‘Billy Elliot’ actors also gave their impressions, “We’re going to work to be the next best actors, we’ll show you the even better figure to stand on this stage in the future,”

[NEWS] SM Entertainment reports loss of 4 billion won from karaoke business

It has been reported that SM Entertainment (SME) has lost a monstrous sum of 4 billion won (approx. US $3.7 million) in the last 4 years, which coincides with the company’s expansion into the karaoke business.

In 2006, SM Bravo, a company that specialised in karaoke machines, was incorporated as a subsidiary by SM Entertainment in order for SME to expand their operations into the karaoke industry. Additionally, SM Amusement, a different company affiliated with the karaoke industry, was added to the list of subsidiaries when SM Entertainment incorporated it in 2008.

At the time of this expansion, SM Entertainment had announced that they would revolutionize the karaoke industry with their expertise in the Korean and Asian music market, as well as their influential network-ability in Asia.

However, after four years into this expansion, there remains only two karaoke establishments that are operating somewhat effectively. Additionally, the value and worth of the subsidiary company’s are failing to increase despite continued investments.

To summarise the total loss made my SM Entertainment:
SM Bravo has invested a total of 6 billion won, but by end of August 2010 it was reported that only 3.4 billion won was what remained of the account, resulting to a loss of 2.4 billion won.
SM Amusement has invested a total of 1.4 billion won, but as per bi-annual report, the investment has gone down the drain with the total resulting to impaired/eroded capital.

As a result of the loss, SM Bravo will be undergoing a merge with SM Amusement, with an SME representative stating, “A remodelling of the karaoke business was necessary and hence we are in the process of merging the subsidiaries together. Once they have merged we will come up with a brand new business plan.”

Meanwhile, netizens have voiced their opinions, “Don’t they know what happens when you start carrying too many eggs in one basket?”, “So that’s where all the hard earned cash from their artists go to”, “What a waste of sweat and tears from SNSD, Suju, Shinee, F(x)”, and my personal favourite comment – “This is a classic example of a parent running down their business and making their kids earn the money for them. And when the kids hand over their hard earned cash the parents then spend it on useless things instead of paying off their debt. Once the kids start telling them to stop the nonsense, the parents then tell them not to bite off the hand that feeds them when it’s obvious that the kids are feeding themselves with their own hands.”

Daewoo Securities Co. Ltd. stated on the 29th that although SM's stocks (041510) (12,950 Won, -3.00%) are plummeting due to the TVXQ lawsuit issue, the dip is nothing to greatly worry about.

[TRANS] 100509 Xiah Junsu's Solo Single Pre-ordered 160 000 Copies - Sales Reach 3 Billion Won!

Tohoshinki's Xiah Junsu's first solo single in Japan has reached the pre-order sales of 3 billion Won!
His solo single will be released in Japan on May 26. Xiah Junsu's side has expressed, "there have been 160 000 pre-ordered copies in Japan already. CD's have 75 000 copies, DVD's including the special edition copy has 85 000 copies".

Looking at it through the amount of money, it has an approximately 3 billion Won value, making Xiah Junsu's popularity unable to be defeated!

What makes it particular is that this will be Xiah Junsu's first solo single after his groups' suspension of activities and before his activities as a unit, which attracts more attention from Japanese fans.
