In LA, USA STAPLES Center, at the night of the 4th around 7:00 began “SM TOWN LIVE ’10 WORLD TOUR” in LA, its a grad celebration. The fans’ reactions were really enthusiastic, making people wonder whether this is Korea or America.When popular groups came on stage, their reactions were more extreme than fans from Korea.

TVXQ’s Yunho and Changmin also appeared on stage. Because TVXQ is not only a popular group in Asia, but all around the world as well, so when the two appeared on stage the screams and cheers were very enthusiastic. Their appearance onto the stage is different from all the other groups. They flew on stage, and landed in the center with screaming fans.

The cheers were nonstop. About 15000 fans gathered for this 4 hour performance. Most of the fans, their eyes didn’t leave the stage once. Their excitement for the singer’s songs and dances, they made it seem like the 4 hours only lasted short 40 minutes.

The morning before the performance, about 200 fans gathered around the Hotel the SM artists were staying at in LA, making the atmosphere very heated.

For this concert, many Korean media stations and other oversea stations containing MTV also came, about 200 big media were present. This performance should sell about $1,800,000

[TRANS] 100709 Tickets for Musical ‘Goong’ Completely Sold Out In 2 Minutes

Tickets scheduled for the sessions of the musical ‘Goong’ from 8th of September till the 19th began sales at 9PM on the 8th of July. However, within two minutes, tickets for the sessions starring Uknow Yunho were completely sold out. The remaining sessions also received an overwhelming response, and the overall sales figures for that day received top spot on the sales chart.

Under the circumstance where performances in the domestic sector are not doing well, the musical ‘Goong’, however, has been very well received, increasing the awareness of those related to the industry. The production company expressed that, “Besides local fans, fans from Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and other countries who have not pre-ordered their tickets have been calling in for enquiries. The musical ‘Goong’ has received the attention of the masses, and has the potential to allow countries from out of South Korea to understand more about the Korean musicals.”

The musical ‘Goong’ is an original musical production created based on the manga, which sold more than 1.4 million copies, and the television drama ‘Goong’, which has been exported to 23 countries all around the world. Playing the character of the royal prince Lee Shin are Uknow Yunho, Kim Dong Ho and Run. Playing the character of high school student Chae Kyung are Kwak Seon Young and Shin Eh Jung. Prince Lee Yul, who dreams to become the royal prince, is played by Lee Chang Hee and Jung Dong Hwa. The royal prince’s ex-girlfriend Min Hyo Rin is played by Choi Soo Jin and Seo Hyeon Jin, who were chosen based on public voting. The production of this musical and its elegant stage display has been the focus of all aspects within the industry. The musical ‘Goong’ will start its debut session on 8th September 2010 at the National Museum of Long Theatre, and begin its first step to being a legend in South Korea’s local musical scene.

Tohoshinki's Junsu, 2010's #1 Solo Artist, 200K Copies Sold First Week

Although the popular Korean group Tohoshinki paused their activities in April, one of the members, Junsu, debuted as XIAH Junsu with his solo single, "XIAH (Intoxication)" on May 26th, coming in at 2nd place on the rankings. It sold around 195,000 copies by the first week, a new record for 2010 for a solo single (Yuusuke's "Lion", released in March, sold about 92000 copies.)

The single contains the song titled "Beautiful Love ~As Long as I Have You", which is to be used as the theme song for fellow Tohoshinki member's Yoochun's new drama, "Beautiful Love ~As Long as I Have You~" (To be released on June 4th). The DVD version includes the Intoxication video clip, and "Beautiful Love ~As Long as I Have You~" (Drama short ver.)

[TRANS] 100513 Avex’s Balance Sheet for The First Quarter of 2010, Tohoshinki’s Best Album Sold 700,000 Copies

Major music company Avex Group Holdings released their balance sheet on the 13th showing that they have made a profit of 800 million yen (≈$8.6 milllion) in the first quarter of 2010 (compared to a loss of 900 million yen in the previous quarter). Their total sales were 118.1 billion yen (≈$1.3 billion), indicating a growth of 0.3%. On the other hand, their operating profits showed an incline of 14.1% and brought in 5.5 billion yen (≈$59 million).

There weren’t many releases from their major artists, but the stable profits they acquired from selling concert tickets, etc. guaranteed their business. On the other hand, because of the need of expenses to promote and advertise for their new businesses, their operating profits decreased.

In the first quarter, they only has one million-hit CD, which is EXILE’s album “Ai Subeki Mirai he” and it has sold 1.46 million copies so far. Tohoshinki and Amuro Namie are up next, and each artist’s best album has sold approximately 700,000 copies so far.

It is estimated that in the first quarter of 2011, Avex will experience a decrease of 0.1% in total sales which still bring in 118 billion yen (≈$1.2 billion); but their operating profits will increase 52.7% which will bring them 8.5 billion yen (≈$92 million). It is expected that their total profits will increase approximately 4.1 times and bring in 4 billion yen (≈$43 million).
